Artist Statement
Painting quiets my mind and lets me explore new ideas. My process is meditative and improvisational, based on initial sketches. Organic, unexpected forms are key. I'm driven to better understand myself and the world, drawing inspiration from varied sources.
Imagery often comes from dreams, old sketches, and rough drafts. I experiment with color combinations, much like experiencing food cravings. A particular color combination might stay with me until I find the right moment to use it.
My current work uses straight lines, gradients, organic shapes, and a vibrant palette of bright and earthy colors to create movement, depth, and multidimensionality. I'm also integrating imaginary and real landscapes, plus floating objects, to explore my fascination with nature, the spiritual, and control versus freedom.
I also explore photography, especially street photography. Exploring new places and observing daily life gives me fresh perspectives and visual experiences. I'm currently working with these observations, allowing them to shape my painting, expand my visual language, and guide me toward new creative possibilities.
